Interesting investigation into why we read and what it means to read for pleasure. However, I did not get as engaged in it as I expected. That could be because it just wasn’t the right time, but it could also be because I wasn’t really the target audience. He actually says at one point that this book is written for those people who once read for pleasure but no longer seem able to stay focused on a book. I am certainly not part of this group, as I can get completely engaged in books. That said, it is true that I sometimes am more focused than others (and can get distracted by the computer/internet), so it was a good reminder that I need to make sure I always make time and space to read. Overall, I enjoyed his descriptions and analyses of what it means to get lost in a book and to be a “reader”, someone who reads for their life. This feels so true to me – I live and breath reading and I could not live without it.
