And now for some miscellany! Not totally unrelated to books, however…
I’ve recently been learning how to crochet with crochet thread and tiny crochet hooks, to make delicate items such as doilies (I already knew how to crochet with yarn, to make things such as scarves). Picture beautiful Victorian lacy things, such as on the cover of this book (I haven’t actually made anything from this book yet, but the cover shows so well what I am imagining).
For my first projects, I made a small motif and two bookmarks. Unfortunately the thread I was using is not the best for bookmarks, as it resulted in ones that were a bit thicker than one might like.
Here’s a closeup of the two bookmarks.
And one of the motif.
My next project is still not a doily, because I saw this lovely hat pattern in a book, made with a thicker cotton thread. It will be my project for the airport as I am traveling this week.
Finally, on the theme of bookmarks, I rediscovered some bookmarks in a drawer the other day. I used to collect bookmarks, but a few years ago I sorted through them and kept only the nicest ones. I made the one in the middle, but not the other four. I’d like to try making one like the two cross-stitched ones some time. Ironically, I have all these beautiful bookmarks and the one I’ve been using the most recently is a cheap paper one. I will have to start using these and my two crocheted ones instead!
