The Booking Through Thursday question this week is:
It’s a holiday weekend here in the U.S., so let’s keep today’s question simple–What are you reading? Anything special? Any particularly juicy summer reading?
When I was in school and didn’t have time to read anything other than textbooks during the year, then I did do “summer” reading – I tended to read relatively light, escapist books. Things to take me on adventures, that didn’t require me to think or analyze. I would read almost exclusively fiction during those school vacations. Now that I have a more balanced schedule, I have time to read year-round and thus my tastes and interests cycle throughout the year. I do not necessarily feel the need for light reading just because it is summer.
Right now, I am trying to finish The Omnivore’s Dilemma. It is not exactly what you would call light, but it is perhaps good I am reading it in the summer because it is inspiring me to try to eat more locally grown and organic foods, and it is much easier to do that in the summer when the farmer’s market is on! After I finish this book, I will probably go back to the other book I’m in the middle of, The Amulet of Samarkand, although I fear that my hiatus from the book may have diminished my interest in it. I think I will get back into it, though. And after that, who knows what I’ll read next. I’ll have to see what I’m in the mood for!
